Water Adventure Play Park

The official opening of the water park took place on July 17th. At 10.30am the Mayor and Mayoress arrived in a horse drawn carriage and after a few "thank you"s and good wishes, the ribbon was cut to allow the waiting crowd access to the new Weston Town Council play area.
The first design concepts were brought before the Town Council in 2008. The contractor chosen to carry out the works was Sun Safe Play Systems, for the splash pad, working with Eibe Play for the wooden play equipment. The design changed a few times during the course of 2009 and delays with the lease put back the park development for awhile.
In March 2010 the works commenced and the park started to take shape. After 18 weeks and a couple of changes along the way, the park was finally finished.
The splash pad offers a range of fountains and sprays which are triggered by sensors and buttons. These run for a short period of time before they need to be triggered again.
The Port beacon, the tallest piece of equipment on the splash pad, emits a rain shower effect while others create tunnels and arches.
The wooden play equipment includes the Stockholm Castle, a double cable way and a toddler area where the musical can play the xylophone or crawl through a short tunnel. A sand pit is located near the rear of the park along with a climbing pyramid and snake swing.
Town Mayor, Councillor Philip Judd, said, the new facility is a terrific asset to Weston-super-Mare and will further boost the tourism prospects of the town and provide an all year round facility for local residents

Parks and Play Areas
The Town Council maintains a wide range of parks, gardens, open
spaces, and play areas within the town, some of which are in its
ownership, and some leased from North Somerset District
Council.
Play areas are situated throughout the town.
The most recent to be opened was Millennium Green following
completion of works by South Ward Neighbourhood Management
Partnership. The official opening happened on 14th March 2009 and
was attended by the Town Mayor, Councillor Andrew Horler.

The opening was deemed a huge success and residents from the
local area came along to enjoy the entertainment.
In addition, the Town Council is actively pursuing the provision of
a water play feature on a sea front site and hope this can be open
for spring of next year.
The other parks which are maintained by the Town Council are:
Ashcombe Park Play Area Upper
Refurbished in April 2006. Record Playground Systems won the
contract and installed the park equipment, within the scheme there
is a 4mtr Activity net, an Ariel run way, swings, springer's and a
roundabout.
Seating has been provided for parents and carers with picnic tables
and new bins.

Ashcombe Park Play Area Lower
Refurbished in August 2008, it included anti-wrap swings for
both toddlers and juniors, a multi play slide unit and a Dish
Roundabout. For children aged 7 - 14 the NeXUS Freebie Board,
Whizzer and Core have been installed.
Two more benches have been added along with new bins.

Clarence Park
Refurbished in July 2004. It offers a climbing unit with slide, swings, toddler swings, springers and a see-saw.

Ellenbrough Park
Ellenbrough Park is a Site of Specific Scientific Interest.
The rare Chafer Beetle has been recorded as an inhabitant of the
park, found in the dead wood at the eastern edge.
The park also supports rare plant life such as the Branched Horse
Tail, found only in one other location in Britain, and the Smooth
Rupturewort, the only other locations for this are in East
Anglia.
The children's park installed here is fairly small so as not to
encroach on the surrounding wildlife.
Refurbished in June 2005, this park was funded by Weston-super-Mare
Town Council and the Weston Regeneration Partnership.

Grove Park
Refurbished February 2005, again this park was developed in partnership. Weston-super-Mare town Council and the Weston-super-Mare Regeneration Partnership worked together to provide a well needed Play area for children of the local community.

Hutton Moor Skate Park
Extended and refurbished in March 2006. Located next to Hutton Moor leisure Centre, the skate park offers a variety of ramps and jumps ideal for skaters.

Uphill Junior and Toddler Play areas
Refurbished June 2005. Local residents felt that there was a lack of recreation for the local children so the two parks where designed with the local's needs and considerations in mind.

And last of all we have
Worle Rec
Refurbished in April 2007 this play area offers twin double arch swings for toddlers and juniors, an electro multi-play system for 8 -16 year olds, a 2.4 meter rotating climbing net, a nursery rhymes multi-play system for toddlers and a Cobra See-Saw.
