Weston Hospicecare

Weston Hospicecare launches this year's Midnight Beach Walk  - Weston-super-Mare's fundraising event of the year!

The Midnight Beach Walk, which is proudly sponsored by the Weston & Somerset Mercury and Howards Group, is now accepting registrations and places are already going fast.

This year's all women's event will take place on Saturday 18th September and will see around 1,200  ladies take to the beach for a 5 mile moonlit walk. Women will walk from the  Beach at Uphill to the end of the new Grand Pier, then back along the promenade to Royal Sands and then along the beach to Uphill. Sue Sweet, fundraiser said:

'The Midnight Beach Walk will be our fourth Midnight Beach Walk and we like to see more women than ever joining us, having fun and raising money for Weston Hospicecare; this year our aim is to raise £90,000 which would enable us to run our Day Hospice for a whole year".

Michelle Bustin will be one of the ladies taking part in the 2010 Midnight Beach Walk - raising funds for Weston Hospicecare.

" I want everyone to know what a fantastic  place the Hospice is. My Mum, Margaret, was cared for at the Hospice last year. the staff were just wonderful with the support they gave her - not just at the Hospice but also at her home. At the end she was so happy to be there and we were so grateful that Mum was looked after properly. That's why my auntie and I are doing the Midnight Beach Walk this year. we want to give back to the team that helped Mum".

The Midnight Beach Walk team are hoping that the community, like the previous three years,  will support their local Hospice, which provides specialist palliative care free of charge to local people in Weston-super-Mare, Cheddar, Burnham on Sea and the surrounding areas. Weston Hospicecare will help more than 1,000 patients and their families this year, touching the lives of thousands more. Weston Hospicecare is a charity and relies on the generosity of the local community to raise £2m each and every year through our shops and fundraising activities like the Midnight Beach Walk.

Sue Sweet said 'We are quite simply astounded by the support we have received over the past three years from the community, business sponsors, volunteers and of course our fantastic walkers. We hope that this year will be better than ever!'

The entry fee is £8 per adult (£3 for under 16s). Each walker will receive an allocated place on the Walk and they will be sent a sponsorship pack. Participants will be asked to raise as much sponsorship as possible so that the £90,000 fundraising target can be met.

To help make this a memorable and exciting event, just register online at westonhospicecare.org.uk/midnightbeachwalk, call the fundraising team on 01934 423 960 or pick up a registration leaflet from a Weston Hospicecare shop.
